“Sanctions on Gerhard Schröder!” demands the CDU. The ex-Chancellor didn’t deserve that

Many enemies, much honor, they say, and the honor is particularly great when arrows come from opposite directions.

As with Gerhard Schroeder.

SPD and CDU hate him for the Hartz reforms. Some because he implemented them, others because it was he who implemented them.

All envious people hate him because the redneck makes big bucks and lets it hang out.

So far nobody has really pulled from the leather, but now the dams have broken.

At the forefront of the wave is CDU man Michael Brand. He wants to sanction the ex-Chancellor. According to Brand, he is a “foreign agent”, “at least in terms of content”.

Whatever that means. Doesn’t the content weigh more heavily than just the outside? In addition, there would be espionage detention, no account blocking.

Schröder is not above the law, Brand rants. But the former Chancellor has broken no law. What Brand really means: Schröder is outside the law. The rule of law does not apply to Putin friends.

Unfortunately, Brand is not alone. In a survey, almost two-thirds of the Germans questioned call for Schröder’s scalp.

That’s what you get when you, as an ex-chancellor, prefer eating lobster to pig’s stomach.
