San Diego County School Employees Will Be Vaccinated Against COVID-19

The County of San Diego, the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) and the Voluntary Benefits Association for California School Employees (VEBA) are pleased to announce that vaccination of county educational personnel will begin on Saturday. February 27.

The county, SDCOE, and VEBA have worked together to follow state guidelines on prioritizing vaccinations for education workers working in schools within the neighborhoods most affected by COVID-19.

Employees assigned to the 242 schools located in areas whose number on the state’s Healthy Places Index (HPI) places them within 4The quartile are eligible for vaccination at this time. The HPI quartiles for schools are listed on the SDCOE School Reopening Dashboard.

Targeting vaccination resources in this way addresses the health inequities of COVID-19 and supports schools in those communities, which have had transmission rates well above the county average and tend to serve low-income, black students. , Latinos, Pacific Islander, or children of essential workers.

“This is an important step forward for our school communities,” said Dr. Paul Gothold, San Diego County Superintendent of Schools. “SDCOE is committed to supporting public health efforts to rapidly vaccinate educational personnel – teachers, classified staff, and administrators – against COVID-19.”

Principals of schools located in neighborhoods within the 4The quartile will receive an email from SDCOE with details on how to submit information about eligible employees to VEBA. Once VEBA receives the information from the qualifying schools, those employees will be able to log into VEBA’s secure portal at VEBAvaccinates.com to schedule appointments.

K-12 school employees should not make appointments through the county reservation portals. Appointments will not be accepted for K-12 employees using the wrong reservation system.

Because the county is operating with a limited supply of vaccines, we ask the community to be patient as we work to make this process as efficient as possible. Meanwhile, work to reopen our schools continues to advance.

San Diego County schools and districts continue to plan and prepare for the return of students to face-to-face instruction observing a specific time frame for public health conditions and the needs of their school communities.
