Samsung wants to repair non-working blu-ray players, but is out of stock

Released earlier this week the news that various owners of a Samsung Blu-ray player experience problems with the product. The somewhat older Blu-ray players spontaneously seem to no longer function and get stuck in the start-up process. Samsung has since responded to the problems and wants to repair the players for free.

According to a Samsung community manager, who responds to it forum of the company, it is not possible to fix the issues users of a Blu-ray player experience through a software update. This requires a new motherboard and that adjustment must be done in a service center. The repair is free, according to Samsung, but one Dutch user let him know that he has to pay 97 euros in shipping costs.

According to Samsung, only a small number of Blu-ray players have been affected by the problem and the company is doing everything possible to fix the problems. How exactly you qualify for free repair is not clear, but Samsung does indicate that only players who experience this specific ‘bootloop’ problem are eligible for free repair. In addition, there is the problem that the stock of motherboards for these players is very limited. So it may be that there is a long waiting time for repairs, according to the South Korean manufacturer himself. However, the company is investigating whether there are alternative parts to solve the problem.

A survey in the Samsung community shows that these include the following blu-ray players;

  1. Is there an update to this?! Samsung has had my blu ray for a year. They claim I don’t qualify all of a sudden after tellin me I did 6 months ago. They let it slip they sent the machine in for the wrong issue & never looked at it. They also told me the part was out of stock. They offered me $5. Now they claim I’m past my warranty. Who’s doing the class action?
