Samsung to provide 5G solutions to Japanese NTT Docomo

SEOUL, March 23 (Yonhap) – Samsung Electronics Co. announced on Tuesday that it has signed an agreement with Japan’s largest mobile operator, NTT Docomo Inc., to provide it with 5G solutions as the South Korean giant is seeking to increase its presence in the 5G network infrastructure market.

Samsung has announced its plan to support Docomo with its advanced 5G technologies including Open Radio Access Network (O-Ran) compliant solutions to help the Japanese phone company deliver better 5G services to its customers.

Docomo provides wireless services to nearly 82 million subscribers across Japan. It launched the 5G service in March of last year.

This is the first time that Samsung will provide 5G equipment to Docomo. In Japan, the company previously signed an agreement with KDDI Corp.

Samsung Electronics, also the world’s largest smartphone maker, is looking to expand its partnerships with mobile operators looking to migrate to 5G in order to deliver super-fast connections and low-latency telecommunications services to their consumers.

The company recently signed contracts with Canada’s SaskTel and New Zealand’s Spark to provide them with 5G equipment.
