Sameh Shoukry to CNN: Allowing the Palestinians to move temporarily to Egypt violates international law – Youm7

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry told CNN that Egypt “will not allow Palestinians to move there temporarily” while Israel conducts its military operations in the Gaza Strip because that would be a “violation of international humanitarian law.”

Shukri added to CNN anchor Jake Tapper, “This will constitute a violation of international humanitarian law, and any form of displacement, whether internal or external, is a violation, and we will not become a party to such a violation.”

He stated that the Palestinians “themselves do not want to leave,” so “they should not be forcibly displaced,” and reiterated that “liquidating the Palestinians by removing them from their lands is unacceptable, and as I said, it is a violation of humanitarian law.”

It is noteworthy that the United States also objected to any efforts to transfer Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, and US Vice President Kamala Harris said, during a meeting with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, that Washington would not allow the forced transfer of Palestinians or any redrawing of the current borders of the Gaza Strip.

“Under no circumstances will the United States allow the forced transfer of Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank, the siege of Gaza, or the redrawing of Gaza’s borders,” Harris said, according to a statement issued by her office.

Shukri also said that he believes it is “necessary for the Palestinian people to show who they will accept as the ruler of the Gaza Strip.”

When asked whether the Palestinian people would be in a better position with a group other than Hamas, the Egyptian Foreign Minister said, “It is up to the Palestinian people to decide.”
