Salvage rudderless Dutch cargo ship off Norwegian coast postponed due to rough seas

After all crew members had been removed from the ship, the Eemslift Hendrika sailed on automatic pilot, although it soon also had to deal with engine problems. The ship’s engines have since failed.

“It floats and floats towards the coast”, the NOS was informed to the company’s spokesperson, who added that the ship could sail on the Norwegian coast within 12 hours. It may still crash tonight. This can cause an environmental disaster, because there is still a large amount of fuel in the tanks.

The Eemslift Hendrika, co-owned by the Dutch freight company Amasus Shipping from the Groningen municipality of Delfzijl, was built in 2015. The ship is 112 meters long and 17 meters wide. It was on its way from Bremerhaven in Germany to Kolvereid in Norway.
