Salem: Young footballers from the Lake Constance region now play at SC Freiburg

Salem seems to be a good place for young players: with Mika Baur and Julian Stark, two Salemers already play in the Under 23 of the Bundesliga club SC Freiburg. Now, with Kimi Baur from Mimmenhausen and twins Emilio and Tammo Schiertz from Weildorf, three more promising talents have moved on to the Freiburg Bundesliga talent factory.

From this season the football boots are tied in the U15 regional championship, the top division at this age. Kimi Baur attends boarding school at SC Freiburg, Emilio and Tammo Schiertz make the long journey to Breisgau three times a week to train. Then there are the trips to the games on the weekends. A life without football? The three fourteen year olds can no longer imagine it.

The Salem twins pursue their dream of becoming professional footballers

The Salem-Weildorf twins have pursued their dream of playing professional football since they were children. Corona too could not harm the plans of the young. When the workout was canceled, they took care of their fitness. “They searched for the training exercises on YouTube and then disappeared on the sports field with the ball,” says Father Konrad Schiertz. And mom Rita adds with a smile: “If they didn’t, then something was missing and they were in a bad mood.”

The hard training paid off. Because the two who started with the Bambinis at FC Beuren-Weildorf have moved on to SC Freiburg. Parents have also done a lot along the way. They led the twins thousands of miles to games and training. And young people are aware of it.

That’s why they promised their mother that there would be a new car for them once they made some money on football. The dream of professional football is definitely there for the twins. “I would like to play for Liverpool,” says Tammo Schiertz. And his brother Emilio adds: “Perhaps the Premier League is also important for Chelsea.”

Kimi Baur wants to make the leap to the Bundesliga

Kimi Baur also has the dream of the English Premier League or the Spanish Liga. “It would be great if you could play there,” says the 14-year-old. “But first I want to make the leap to the Bundesliga.” When SC Freiburg asked him last season, there was only one option for him: “Either in boarding school or continue playing at FC Radolfzell”.

The second pillar, training, is also important for Kimi Baur. “I would like to do my Abitur in Freiburg and then we’ll see what happens next,” says the young man. His parents support him, both in sports and in education. His mother Marion Baur points out: “A plan B is always very important in sport”.

Kimi Baur is currently injured and suffers from a hip flexor injury. But usually, apart from school, everything for him revolves around football. “I go to class normally and train four times a week,” says Mimmenhausener about his daily life. “There is also physiotherapy”.

The U15 season has already started, but Baur is still unable to play due to the injury. “That’s why I can now go home every two weekends,” says the 14-year-old and adds. “I’m trying to get back in shape as soon as possible.”

And who knows: maybe the three football talents from Salem will also play together in the Under 15 national team. All three have already taken part in the sighting courses organized by the German Football Association. There are currently more than 75 talents from all over Germany. It will be exciting as the number gets smaller and smaller in the coming months.
