Saint-Pe-de-Bigorre. Father Abadie marked the history of the village

As part of the Millénaire, the friends of old Saint-Pé have invited Alain Dole, who knows the secrets of the Saint-Péen massif well, to come and present the book he recently co-wrote with Jean-Claude Mengelle, Marcel Lacrampe, Eric de Valicourt, Jean Pierre Thomas, illustrated by Patrick Degouve and Alain Brenan, recently deceased, who produced the layout and the topographical drawings.

From many photos, Alain Dole told us about Father Bernard Abadie, his family, his brilliant studies at the minor seminary which led him to become a mathematics teacher. As soon as he could, he took his students to discover the caves, while being an atypical country priest in Peyrouse and Rieulhès, and then in Aspin when he was a teacher in Peyramale. He was a great pioneer of speleology, recognized pyreneist, tireless explorer of the Saint-Pé massif. Through many anecdotes told by Alain Dole but also by the large audience who knew the abbot, this meeting was very lively. Today, speleologists have followed in his footsteps and continued his work, which has led to the discovery of hundreds of cavities in the massif, all of which are very impressive. The book entitled: “The passionate life of the Picharrot boar” is a work rich in photos, maps, plans which allows you to better know this man who marked the history of the village, and also the well-hidden riches of the nearby massif, it can be found at the tourist office.
