Saint-Denis: the fairgrounds of the Chaudron market did not take off

It’s a modified market that reopened last Wednesday at Le Chaudron. Change of place, arrangement and restriction of the number of stands, the reorganization of the market still does not happen for some fairgrounds.

The fairground anger does not drop. With the coronavirus health crisis, the organization of fairground markets has had to be rethought. The Chaudron market in Saint-Denis has been moved to nearby sports fields, and location restrictions have been placed.

After two months of closure, it resumed on Wednesday May 13. A recovery that was not to everyone’s taste. Out of 300 stands usually, 187 were able to be reassembled.

Health measures criticized

Measures have been put in place to allow the respect of barrier gestures, but it is quite the contrary according to some fairgrounders. On the initial site, the stands were separated by aisles of 3 meters, against 2 meters now, they believe.

Thirty of them gathered in front of the annex town hall of the Chaudron this Monday, May 18, to demand a return to the original location. They denounce the lack of sanitary facilities, electrical outlets and the overcrowding between the stands.

Threat to boycott the next market

Among them, Jismy Desruisseaux, farmer in Sainte-Suzanne and fairground on the Chaudron market for more than 20 years. For him, if the fairgrounds do not succeed, they will boycott the next fairground market on Wednesday morning.
