Saint-Céré. Blood donation: collection impacted by curfew

This Wednesday, December 16, the multipurpose hall of Saint-Céré took place the last blood drive of the year 2020, organized jointly by the French Blood establishment and the Saint-Céré donor association. For the occasion, all precautionary measures had been implemented to avoid the risk of transmission of the virus: Wearing a mask compulsory for all, accompanied by measures of distancing and reinforced hygiene. People who have exhibited symptoms of Covid must wait 28 days after symptoms disappear to donate blood. This time again, it is the Saint-Céré donor association which, as usual, was in charge of the logistical organization. At 4 p.m., when we visited one hour after the opening, about thirty people had already presented themselves. They were welcomed by the 4 nurses and doctors of the EFS. Among them, note the gendarmes of the COB of Saint-Céré who wanted to respond to this call for the last donation of the year.

At the Saint-Céré donation center, in normal crowds, a donation lasts an average of 35 minutes. The collection is well organized and the snack offered is of quality. For this last collection of the year, 82 donors presented themselves and 76 were collected. Note the good news of 5 new donors who have registered.

For Christiane Laurent, head of the organizing association, this collection with average results is undoubtedly due to decisions related to government decisions related to the curfew, early nightfall, poor traffic conditions, which for donors coming from afar could pose a problem. Étienne, a regular donor, reminds us: “Every donation counts! Due to the health crisis, many scheduled blood drives have been canceled, which reduces the number of samples taken and therefore the blood reserves and 10,000 donations per day are necessary for meet the needs of patients “.

The association is nevertheless satisfied with this fundraising, which confirms that Saint-Céré is an essential link in the departmental system.
