Ryan Reynolds has teased the return of ALF in a recent post on his Instagram account.
On Monday, July 24, the actor, 46, announced that he would be bringing back everyone’s favorite prankster alien ALF on his Maximum Effort channel on July 29.
‘Holy cats! Having our own @MaximumEffort channel means doing fun things like creating new ALF content for ALF replays. Marketing should be FUN,’ Reynolds stated in his Instagram post.
“Thank you to our intrepid #MaximumMoment partners @mintmobile @hims @ring @fubotv @weareMNTN and of course @gordonshumwayofficial.”
The ALF revival was realized through a partnership between Reynolds, ALF creator Paul Fusco, and Shout! Studies.
According to Entertainment Weekly the replay will not consist of full episodes.
Instead, Maximum Effort will air old ALF episodes alongside ALF-focused shorts promoting brands like Mint Mobile and Hims. Some of these shorts were featured in the nearly four-minute long video on Reynolds’ Instagram post.
In 2019, Reynolds purchased a ownership interest at Mint Mobile it’s between 20 and 25 percent. Since the purchase, he has been featured in many Mint Mobile advertisements.
“At Maximum Effort, we love taking risks and blurring the lines between shows and sponsorship because we believe both can be equally entertaining,” the Wrexham FC owner told Entertainment Weekly.
“Besides my irrational love for ALF [mientras] growing up, one of the reasons we licensed this program was precisely because Paul, Shout! Studios and our intrepid brand partners wanted to conspire with us to bring ALF back to life.”
The well-known puppet, played by Fusco, was the main character of the hit sitcom, which aired on NBC. ALF ran for four seasons and was on the air from September 22, 1986 to March 24, 1990.
The plot of the NBC sitcom revolves around the Tanner family, a middle-class suburban family residing in the San Fernando Valley area of California, who take in ALF and later crash in their garage.
The series shows the Tanner family doing everything they can to hide the alien from nosy neighbors and government agencies.
