La La Land Star Ryan Gosling Opens Up About a Regretful Moment in the Film

Ryan Gosling shares his feelings about a particular scene in La La Land

Gosling, the star of the critically acclaimed film La La Land, has recently revealed his personal discontent with one particular moment in the movie, despite its extensive Oscar nominations. Gosling’s open confession on the matter sheds light on a behind-the-scenes insight into the production of the film.

The scene that haunts Gosling

In a video interview with the Wall Street Journal, Gosling candidly discussed the scene that has been troubling him since the release of La La Land. He explained that during a dance sequence with his co-star Emma Stone, his hand was positioned differently from what was originally planned. Gosling’s refusal to follow the recommended hand gestures, aiming to make his performance more unique, has now left him with regrets.

The hand gesture mishap

According to Gosling, his hand was meant to be pointing up in the air during the dance scene while Stone’s hands mirrored the same gesture. However, he intentionally positioned his hand differently by laying it flat, deviating from the planned choreography. Despite suggestions from the crew that it was not cool and strayed from the authentic moves, Gosling chose to ignore the advice, considering it an opportunity to add creative flair to the scene.

Gosling’s remorse and “La La Hand”

Since the film’s release, Gosling has found it hard to escape the scene that continues to haunt him. He envisions how the moment could have been improved with the original hand gesture pointed upwards and has come to nickname his alternate position as “La La Hand” — a symbol of a moment that did not live up to his expectations.

A hand gesture gone wrong

Gosling amusingly shared with the interviewer that dancers refer to the gesture he assumed as “hamburger hands.” Despite his earlier conviction that his dance background would contribute to his performance in La La Land, Gosling humorously dismissed his own expectations, claiming the opposite. He reflected on the impact of “La La Hand” and the missed opportunity to make a better impression.
