After the first day of an extra EU summit on Ukraine, the prime minister announced that the effect of the Russian action is limited. “It’s not about large amounts of gas. It seems to be not too bad,” says Rutte in a first reaction. “But we’re going to look very closely at it.”
According to Rutte, it is not an option for the cabinet to extract extra gas from the Groningerveld. The prime minister says that other EU member states also do not ask the Netherlands to open the gas tap further.
Next Wednesday, Rutte will visit the province of Groningen. It will be his seventh visit since 2017. The Prime Minister will visit the Groningen Mining Damage Institute and young people who participated in a film project about growing up in an earthquake area.
