Rutgers Knowledge Center Reports on Spring Fever Week: Less Misinformation but Challenges Remain

08 March 2024 at 17:53

The Week of Spring Fever, in which children receive sex education, was more peaceful than last year. According to the Rutgers knowledge center, there was “a lot less misinformation” going around. But not everything went well, the organization reports.

For example, Rutgers saw that some teachers were intimidated by parents. The organization also complains about a “hate campaign” by opponents. The knowledge center regrets the resistance. “Teachers and schools must be free from harassment to do their important work.”

Last week, schools were able to participate again in the week about sexuality, relationships and resilience. About 40 percent of schools did so.

Last year there was a lot of commotion about Spring Fever Week. Some parents became concerned about the content after messages on social media, among other things. Other fathers and mothers felt that talking to their children about sexuality was their own business and not that of someone else, such as a teacher.

The information week was earlier than usual this year. Normally this would be held at the end of March, around the beginning of spring. But then this year it would coincide with Ramadan, the knowledge center reported.
