Scandal in Russian youth ice hockey.
A coach angry at his opponent – and brutally beat him on the ice.
Right in front of the terrified seven-year-olds.
It was in the middle of the match as one of the coaches – as Russian Championship able to identify as one Pavel Platonov – sat over his opponent and had time to deliver several blows before another leader, the referee and an official intervened.
Afterwards, the coaches went back to their seats and the boys’ match resumed as if nothing had happened – but now Platonov’s actions have consequences.
He gets fired.
“Couldn’t control my emotions”
– He has been suspended and his employment will be terminated. He said that the opposing coach had provoked him, but of course that is not an argument for behaving in that way as a coach, says the club’s youth manager Alena Krylova according to the Russian site.
Platonov himself is remorseful. He says that he has been working with children and young people for ten years, and that he has never lost his temper like this before.
– I want to apologize to both the boys and the parents. It’s sad that I don’t get to continue working with them, but I’m sorry on behalf of the entire sports movement, he says.
