Russian Soldiers Use Ukrainian Prisoners of War as Human Shields in Zaporozhye Region: Shocking Drone Footage Revealed

A shocking case in which Russian soldiers going on the attack used Ukrainian prisoners of war as human shields was revealed by drone footage in the Zaporozhye region.

The case was registered in the Rabotino region, and the footage was verified by Radio Svoboda. At the request of the military, the journalists do not indicate the exact place where the video was shot.

The footage shows a man (Ukrainian prisoner of war) walking in front with his hands raised, and behind him are the Russian military with weapons in hand – in this way they are trying to make the Ukrainian forces against them not to open fire. In total, four Ukrainian prisoners of war are visible during the entire duration of the footage. The occupiers themselves, hiding behind them, did not stop shooting. A little later, the Russian military is seen retreating as the attack fails. Unarmed Ukrainian prisoners of war have been sent back. And then one of the prisoners of war is shot and his body can be seen on the ground – his fate is unknown.

Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lyubinets commented that this was the first such video he had seen and that such actions were a direct violation of the Geneva Convention.

“According to the Geneva Convention, it is forbidden to use prisoners of war to participate in hostilities. That is, the prisoner of war must be kept in a special camp for prisoners of war, which must be far from the line of hostilities and wait for the exchange procedure,” he explained.

It is reported that the Ukrainian military wants to open a criminal case in this case.
