Russian soldiers captured at the Chernobyl NPP are feeling the effects of radiation

Russia’s invaders at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) are experiencing severe radiation exposure, but the NPP itself is well protected, the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Safety Scientific and Technical Center said.

The experts of the center explain that the facilities containing radioactive waste are very well protected against various dangers, so that even in the event of a serious accident, the consequences would not be felt beyond the separation zone, but the NPPs themselves are already experiencing radiation.

The absurdity of the situation is exacerbated by the fact that the “newcomers” do not seem to be aware that they themselves are in the critical group that is most exposed. By lifting the layer of contaminated soil and dust with heavy equipment, crossing the routes where movement is prohibited, they caused a deterioration of the radiation situation in the restricted area, ”explained the experts.

Russian soldiers are unfamiliar with the safety techniques that must be followed when working in a radioactively contaminated area. They would be exposed to strong radiation, which will affect their health in the future, the statement said.

“Ignorance and misunderstanding of the dangers, non-compliance with regulations, agreements and conventions often lead to unplanned suicide,” the researchers warned.

On February 24, Russian occupation forces seized control of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The Chancellery of the President of Ukraine has expressed concern that the Russian side may provoke provocation at the NPP.
