Russian Naval Parade 2022: No Nuclear-Powered Submarines Participating

Nothing nuclear-powered submarines in the Russian naval parade scheduled for next July 30, on the day of the celebration of the Moscow Navy. The news was released byintelligence britannica in the daily report on the war in Ukraine released by the London Ministry of Defense. Moscow’s decision could be linked to internal security problems, not too difficult to imagine after the rebellion of the Wagner group and the alleged purges underway among senior military officers of the Moscow army, or to other operational needs. What is certain is that, should the indiscretion be confirmed, the Kremlin’s jokers will not parade for the first time since 2017.

The yellow of Russian submarines

British 007, citing Russian state media, reported that nuclear-powered submarines from Russia’s Northern Fleet will not take part in the Navy Day fleet parade in St. Petersburg on July 30th next. Since the current party format was established in 2017, as anticipated this would be the first year that no nuclear-powered submarines were involved.

The unusual change is probably mainly due to the need to allow the maintenance and maintain availability for operations and thetraining. But there is also a realistic possibility that internal security concerns after the attempted Wagner Group mutiny contributed to the decision.

The situation in Russia

About the internal security to Russia, the situation is still nebulous. Even if the rebellion of the Wagner group it would seem to be a distant memory by now, many questions still remain on the matter. First of all on the future of the same organization of mercenaries, and then of its founder, the same Yevgeny Prigozhin that he allegedly refused an operational offer delivered to him by Putin himself.

Furthermore, in recent days, the Kremlin has allegedly used the hard punch arresting and interrogating scores of top Russian military officers. The unofficial bulletin mentions more than 15 senior military officers suspended and 13 arrested, including General Sergei Surovikin, his deputy Colonel General Andrey Yudin and deputy head of military intelligence, Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, with these the latter two later released.

The situation in Ukraine

British intelligence also continued to monitor what is happening on the battlefields in Ukraine. According to London, for example, Russian forces would have carried out several car bomb attacks using old armored vehicles, especially around the city of Marinka, Donetsk province. “There were several reports in June of Russian forces using armored vehicles filled with tons of explosives as car bombs. The attached soldiers likely jump out of the vehicle after setting its direction,” read a previous dispatch.

Most of the cases of car bomb attacks are said to have occurred around Marinka, near Donetsk and would have started shortly after Chechen units reached the area, so there is a real possibility that Chechen forces are pioneering this practice. “There are reports of the use of similar car bombs by Chechens fighting in Ukraine in January 2023”, explained the same source, according to which however “most of the Russian car bombs almost certainly exploded before reaching their target at due to a combination of factors, from anti-tank mines to direct fire”.
