The Russian army announced that it had sent a MiG-29 fighter, today, Monday, to intercept a Norwegian warplane that was approaching Russia’s borders over the Barents Sea in the Arctic Ocean.
“As the Russian fighter approached, the foreign military aircraft turned back,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement, explaining that the Norwegian Boeing B-8A “Poseidon” is for maritime patrols.
According to the statement, the Russian fighter crew classified the air target as a P-8A “Poseidon” of the Norwegian Air Force.
He added, “When the Russian fighter approached, the foreign military plane turned away from the Russian border.
Last July, Moscow announced that a Russian MiG-31 fighter had intercepted a Norwegian Poseidon B-8R, which approached the Russian border.
The National Center for Defense Management in Russia reported that a Russian “MiG-31” interceptor fighter of the Northern Fleet escorted a “R8A Poseidon” patrol plane of the Norwegian Air Force over the Barents Sea, approaching the Russian border.
According to the center, on July 12, Russian airspace monitoring systems detected an air target approaching the borders of the Russian state over the Barents Sea, and to identify and prevent border violations, a MiG-31 fighter from the Northern Fleet Air Defense Forces took off into the air.
