Russian invasion of Ukraine unlikely: Erdogan

The Turkish President considers Ukraine a strong state and intends to discuss the Ukrainian issue with Putin.

On Tuesday, January 18, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that, in his opinion, Russia is unlikely to decide on a full-scale deployment of troops to Ukraine. About it informs Anadolu Agency.

Erdogan made such a statement upon his return from Albania. He called Ukraine not just an ordinary country, but a strong state.

“I do not consider the prospect of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine realistic. In order for Russia to take such a step, it would have to reconsider the situation around the world and its own situation,” journalists quoted the Turkish president as saying. Erdogan plans to discuss this issue in the near future at a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Recently, the President of Azerbaijan paid a visit to Ukraine.

The Turkish leader noted that this issue should also be raised at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He called for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbas, stressing that every time he meets with the head of the Kremlin, he declares Turkey’s position “against the occupation of Crimea.”

Recall that according to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Russia intensifies combat training of artillery in the occupied Donbas. Since the beginning of this week, occupation corps have been gathering – from the level of company commanders to spotters.

Previously Focus reported that in Ukraine a widespread formation of territorial defense forces. In peacetime, these forces will number 10,000 servicemen. The formation of 25 brigades, which will unite 150 battalions, continues. Dislocation is provided in each of the regions of the country.
