Russian General Fired for Ill-Conceived Attacks in Eastern Ukraine

As noted in the summary, Russian social networks write that the Russian Ministry of Defense most likely fired Colonel General Rustam Muradov from the post of commander of the Eastern Group of Forces (VGV) in Ukraine.

According to British intelligence, Muradov’s VGV has suffered exceptionally heavy losses in recent months, as its ill-conceived attacks have repeatedly prevented the capture of the city of Vuhledar in the Donetsk region. The operations drew strong public criticism from a wide variety of Russian commentators, including Muradov’s own troops.

Muradov took charge of the VGV after his failed attempt to attack Kyiv from the northwest during the initial full-scale invasion.

“At the moment, he is the highest-ranking Russian military man to be fired in 2023, but there are likely to be more as Russia continues to fail to achieve its goals in Donbas,” the UK Defense Ministry said.

Recall that the Russian Ministry of Defense is conducting a targeted information operation to restore the reputation of the 155th Marine Brigade, which was twice defeated near Ugledar.
