Russian Foreign Ministry on Turkey’s mediation in negotiations on Donbass: out of the question

Russia rejected Turkey’s offer to become a mediator between the Russian Federation and Ukraine in the negotiations on the Donbass. Moscow continues to insist that it is not a party to the conflict.

This was stated at a briefing by the speaker of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova, reports TASS… According to her, there can be no talk of any mediating role of Turkey.

Zakharova claims that only Kiev, Donetsk and Lugansk are parties to the conflict.

“We are undoubtedly grateful to the Turkish side, and in particular to the President of Turkey, for striving to promote an internal Ukrainian settlement. An important step in this direction could be his contribution to persuading the Ukrainian authorities to abandon aggressive plans in relation to Donbass and begin to implement the Minsk agreements in direct dialogue with representatives Donetsk and Lugansk “, – she stressed.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the other day, the head of Turkey, Recep Erdogan, said that ready to become a mediator between Kiev and Moscow in order to bring the relations of the two warring capitals to a peaceful settlement.

The Turkish president believes that not only the parties to the conflict are interested in regional stability, but also all neighboring countries.

Erdogan, from the very beginning of the occupation of Crimea by Russia, adhered to the position open non-recognition of the Kremlin’s methods of force and still calls the peninsula Ukrainian. Moscow believes that the Turkish leader is thus encroaching on the territorial integrity of the Federation.

Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov indicated that the accumulation of Russian military equipment on the demarcation line in Donbass allegedly does not aim at a new escalation or intimidation of Kiev with the next round of war.
