Russian Deputy Chairman Warns Japan against Militarization and Reveals Surge in Russian Army Enlistments

The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, warned Japan against militarization and reminded it of the lessons of history. He also revealed the number of Russian citizens who have contracted to serve in the Russian army since the beginning of the year.

In detail, Dmitry Medvedev warned Tokyo on the Victory Day over Japan against adopting a new militarization approach that exacerbates the seriousness of the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.

Medvedev said at events held in the city of Yuzhnosakhalinsk in the Russian Far East after the victory over Japan and the end of World War II: “It is unfortunate that Japan pursues a new militarization policy. The current Japanese authorities are heirs to authorities that once faced a disgraceful end,” according to what was reported by the Russian news agency TASS.

He explained that the Japanese authorities, with the support of their American sponsors, began actively developing the Japanese military infrastructure, purchasing foreign weapons, including offensive weapons, and lifting restrictions imposed on the development of the Japanese “defense forces” and military operations abroad.

He pointed out that “military exercises near the Russian Kuril Islands seriously complicate the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.”

He added, “Japan must learn from history in an unforgettable memory that we celebrate today, fully recognize the results of World War II, do everything in its power to prevent the outbreak of a third war and abandon its military ambitions in the service of its people.”

Medvedev pointed out that Tokyo, with its attempts to rewrite history, justify war crimes and whitewash its perpetrators, as happened in the middle of the last century, is now supporting a new Nazi regime, this time in Ukraine, unfortunately.

280 thousand join the Russian army

On the other hand, Medvedev revealed that 280,000 citizens have contracted with the Ministry of Defense to serve in the Russian army since the beginning of this year, some of whom are reservists and volunteers.

He said in a meeting on the sidelines of the celebration in Yuzhnosakhalinsk: “Let’s continue discussing the most important issue that brought us together this time in the Russian Far East. This time I meet personally with the leaders of the Russian federal entities to find out about the reinforcement of the Russian forces with new recruits, contractors.”

He pointed out that, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, since the first of last January, about 280,000 people have been accepted into contracts with the army, some of them are soldiers and reserve officers, some are volunteers, and other categories of associates.
