MOSCOW, KOMPAS.TV – Russia on Friday responded to a barrage of new US sanctions, saying it would expel 10 US diplomats and take other retaliatory measures in tensions with Washington.
As reported by the Associated Press, Friday (16/04/2021), Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also said Moscow would add eight US officials to its list of sanctions and move to limit and stop the activities of US nongovernmental organizations to interfere in Russian politics.
Lavrov said the Kremlin advised US Ambassador John Sullivan to follow the example of his Russian counterpart and return to Washington DC for consultations.
Russia will also reject the possibility of the US embassy employing personnel from Russia and third countries as support staff.
The move follows sanctions against Russia announced this week by the Biden administration.

While the US is using force to cripple Russia’s economy, Moscow has no levers to respond in the same way, even though it could potentially hurt American interests in many other ways around the world.
