Russia and Ukraine fought in the city of Soledar, Eastern Ukraine. This battle also triggers a series of explosions.
Reporting from AFP, Russia said Russian troops had seized control of the city of Soledar on Friday (14/1/2023). The claim is the first claim of victory after months of setbacks on the battlefield.
The Russian defense ministry announced it had “completed the liberation” of Soledar earlier in the day. Victory is said to pave the way for more “successful offensive operations” in the Donetsk region.
In a separate statement, they praised the “brave and selfless” troops of the Wagner mercenary group for storming Soledar.
Wagner’s founder, Yevgeny Prigozhin, asserts that his troops spearheaded the Soledar attack.
