Russia says it has no intention of overthrowing the Ukrainian government

Government Russia stated that negotiations with the government Ukraine to resolve the conflict has made progress. Russia also underlined that its troops do not intend to overthrow the Ukrainian government.

“Some progress has been made,” said a Foreign Ministry spokesman Russia Maria Zakharova at a press conference, referring to three rounds of talks with Ukraine.

Reported from the news agency AFPOn Wednesday (9/3/2022), Ukrainian and Russian officials met at the Belarusian-Polish border for talks to end the fighting.

Zakharova said the next round of talks would focus on humanitarian corridors for evacuating civilians.

He also said Russia not intending to occupy Ukraine or overthrow the government.

“The aim of the military is not to occupy Ukraine, or the destruction of the state, or to overthrow the government. It is also not aimed at the civilian population,” Zakharova said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was sending troops to Ukraine to “de-Nazify” the country.

Since Russian troops entered Ukraine on February 24, they have pounded key Ukrainian cities, forcing millions of people to flee.

At a press conference, Zakharova accused Ukrainian authorities of obstructing efforts to evacuate civilians.
