Russia Likely to Escalate Attacks in Kobyansk Lyman Axis, British Military Intelligence Says

British military intelligence said that Russia is likely to escalate the force of its attacks in the Kobyansk Lyman axis during the next two months to establish a buffer zone around the Lugansk region (east).

For his part, a Ukrainian military commander said that the Ukrainian forces believe that they have penetrated the most difficult lines of Russian defense in the south of the country and will now be able to advance more quickly.

Ukraine launched a counterattack in June, but Russia’s highly prepared defense lines backed by minefields slowed the Ukrainian forces’ advance south towards the Sea of Azov.

On Wednesday, Ukrainian forces said they had raised the country’s flag in the village of Robotyn in the Zaporizhia region in the south, about 10 kilometers south of the front-line town of Orekhiv.

“We’re not going to stop there,” said the commander, who was at the helm of some troops to two robots and uses the alias Kombat.

He added, “After that we have (the town of) Berdyansk, and then more. I made it clear to my forces before that that our target is not two robots, our target is (the sea of) Azov.”

Ropoten is about 100 km from the port of Berdyansk on the coast of the Sea of Azov, and 85 km from the strategic city of Melitopol.

Moscow has not confirmed that Ukraine has advanced to two robots.

“We crossed the mined main roads, we got to those lines where we can advance,” Combat said. “I’m sure we will advance faster from here.”

He added that the Ukrainian forces have now entered areas where there are only “Russian logistical” groups, and made it clear that he did not expect that it would be difficult to penetrate the Russian defenses there.
