Russia Invites Palestinian Factions to Unity Talks in Moscow

Russia invites factions Palestine to meet in Moscow next week. The invitation was also welcomed by the factions in Palestine.

Reported Reuters and Al Arabiya, Monday (19/2/2024), the Palestinian Authority stated that it was ready to attend. The Palestinian Authority is also ready to engage with Hamas in the meeting.

Russia has invited all Palestinian factions to meet on the 26th of this month in Moscow,” said Prime Minister (PM) of the Palestinian Authority, Mohammad Shtayyeh, while speaking at the Munich Security Conference.

“We will see whether Hamas is ready to step in with us,” he added.

He hopes that Hamas will also attend. He said Palestine needs unity from all factions. However, he said Hamas needed to fulfill certain prerequisites if it wanted to be part of Palestinian unity.

“We are ready to get involved. If Hamas doesn’t do it, it will be a different story. We need Palestinian unity,” Shtayyeh said in his statement.

Invitation from Russia

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov announced that Moscow had invited Hamas and other Palestinian factions, including Fatah, which now heads the Palestinian Authority. Russia invites factions in Palestine to meet in Moscow to discuss the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip.

The meeting, according to Bogdanov, will also discuss other issues in the Middle East region. Bogdanov announced that Russia had invited dozens of Palestinian groups to Moscow to attend ‘inter-Palestinian’ talks to be held from February 29.

The groups include Hamas and Islamic Jihad based in the Gaza Strip, as well as representatives of Fatah and the wider Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

“We invite all Palestinian representatives – all political forces who have their respective positions in various countries, including Syria, Lebanon and other countries in the region,” said Bogdanov, who also serves as President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy for the Middle East. as quoted TASS.
