Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Russia now has a shortage of industrial workers. A survey by the Yegor Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy said this shortfall had hit a new high last month.
The survey found that 42% of Russian industrial enterprises faced a shortage of workers in July, beating April’s record shortfall of 35%. Meanwhile, a survey was conducted of around 1,000 companies.
News site RBCciting the results of the survey, noted that the share of companies planning to hire employees has increased since September 2022. This came as President Vladimir Putin launched a mobilization campaign to cover the troop deficit in Ukraine.
“In the context of record staff shortages, the hiring plan demonstrates the company’s growing desire to address personnel shortages,” it said RBCciting a report by the Gaidar Institute, Thursday (3/8/2023).
“But this plan almost certainly does not reflect the true level (of hiring needs) of companies, which are forced to face the limited opportunities of the Russian labor market,” he added.
Only 2% of companies surveyed said they were overstaffed. RBC notes that the shortage-to-surplus ratio (shortage-to-surplus) of the striking workforce represents the largest margin in the last 28 years.
According to an April survey by the Central Bank of Russia, in the first quarter of 2023, the labor shortage in Russia reached its highest level since records began in 1998.
The most acute personnel shortages according to the Central Bank survey were observed in manufacturing, industry, mining and transportation.
