Russia bolsters military positions around Donetsk – Washington Post

According to a senior US Department of Defense official who spoke on condition of anonymity, the Russian Federation has reinforced its positions around Donetsk with artillery units.

We are talking about the convoy, which is now moving south from the Russian border. It includes a command element, a support battalion, helicopter support and security infantry.

A Pentagon spokesman called it “clear evidence” that the Kremlin is already pursuing its goal of seizing the entire territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions after failing to take Kyiv.

The US Department of Defense official also added that in recent days, Russia has concentrated most of its airstrikes in the Donbas.

The Pentagon does not yet have information on when Russia might launch a new offensive, but “there are signs that it was preparing for it.”

According to US intelligence, a massive Russian military convoy was heading south towards occupying Izyum, which Russia could use as a springboard to storm larger cities further south.
