The run on the test roads in Upper Austria has increased further. Almost 19,000 people were registered for Sunday, around 18,000 today (as of 2 p.m. yesterday), and 14,000 tomorrow. From today, a negative corona test no more than two days old is mandatory for visits to a hairdresser or masseur.
Because a total of 30,000 tests can be carried out per day, there are still places free – but not everywhere. Of the 45 public test stations in the state, 25 were fully booked for today (as of 11 a.m. yesterday), for example those in Magazingasse in Linz, in Stadtsaal Steyr, in Walding, Braunau, Gmunden, Kirchdorf, Waldneukirchen or St. Georgen im Attergau. On Tuesday, 15 stations were fully booked. However, due to cancellations and new registrations, this can change constantly, according to the state crisis team.
The first list of pharmacies that offer free corona tests has been available since Sunday. Nationwide there are 400, in Upper Austria 58 – of which 54 start today, four a little later. Seven pharmacies in Linz and six in Wels are on the list, but none in Steyr. Pharmacies are also represented in rural regions, for example in Aigen-Schlgl, Rutzenmoos, Molln or Wartberg an der Krems. “There are more and more, the list is updated daily,” said the Chamber of Pharmacists. Customers should register by phone and take the e-card with them.
The federal government is now paying for the tests in pharmacies so that there are more free offers. The Deputy Curia chairman of the resident doctors in Upper Austria, Wolfgang Ziegler, demands that the federal government also allow free tests with doctors: “Above all, our elderly population needs test offers around the corner, and that is the local doctor’s offices.”
Criticism of the federal and state levels came from SP state manager Georg Brockmeyer, who sees a “two-class test society” at the expense of rural districts. The offer must urgently be expanded and de-bureaucratised.
The VP Upper Austria emphasizes that the test capacities are at the top when compared to other federal states. (az)
