Run to IKEA: an affordable collection with high-end brand Marimekko will soon be on the shelves there | Nina

Big news for design lovers: IKEA is joining forces — and Scandinavian DNA — with pricey Marimekko. The playful and surprisingly affordable collection will be on the shelves from March: with the fresh shades and prints you can bring that much-needed spring feeling into your home.

It’s a trend that has been going on for a long time: brands that are joining forces for exclusive collaborations. The latest new addition to that list is that of IKEA and Marimekko. A match made in heavenbecause the two brands have their Scandinavian roots and associated, abstract sense of style in common.

But their selling prices? Then they fall apart again. The Swedish furniture chain is known for its affordable price tags, while the Finnish design house is more high-end. Read: Marimekko sells dresses that can sometimes cost up to 500 euros and tablecloths for which you pay 222 euros.

Scandinavian sauna culture as a source of inspiration

But soon you won’t have to pull a rib out of your body for the brand’s design. For this collaboration, Marimekko met IKEA — and so did we. The prices of the collection, which was baptized BASTUA and has Scandinavian sauna culture as its theme, are very democratic. From 1.50 euros for a colorful baby carrier to 79.99 euros for an eccentric mirror. The term BASTUA refers to ‘sauna’ in Småland, a region in southern Sweden where IKEA was founded.

Kimonos, pillows and a water jug

Also in the offer: a shower curtain, towels, kimonos, glasses and drinking bottles. But also a side table, a bench, cushions and even a sauna bucket. The collection is designed in such a way that you can use the pieces in different contexts: on the beach, in the wellness, but just as well at home.

Rhubarb leaf as a red thread

It is an exclusive, limited collaboration: it is the first time that Marimekko designs prints with another brand. The high-quality house is known for its use of playful, almost childlike patterns, which is clearly reflected in this collection. The common thread running through the designs is the large, decorative rhubarb leaves that often grow next to sauna buildings in Finland, depicted on various products in the collection, including the iconic FRAKTA bag.

A feeling of endless summers

With many different colors, albeit in muted tones and with green accents, the items from the collaboration are ideal for giving your interior the necessary spring feeling. Anyone who prefers sober will lose their heart to the glass items with a unique design. “The collection reflects the feeling of endless summers and captures the simple and aesthetic beauty of Scandinavian nature in furniture and accessories for the home,” said Henrik Most, Creative Leader at IKEA.

You can see the entire collection here to see. BASTUA will be available in Belgian IKEA stores and on IKEA.be. High-quality design from a top brand, with items that help you relax the Scandinavian way – and all that for an affordable price tag? What’s not to like.

Our advice: don’t walk, but run to IKEA as soon as the birds start chirping. Because as soon as this collection is on the shelves, it will probably be a struggle to swing the items in your shopping cart.
