Opening at the Splendid Palace Cinema, the author of the idea of the film and the main character in one person Edgars Trankalis shared his thoughts on why everyone should watch this movie: “The purpose of the movie is to inspire, excite and motivate everyone to become more active and thoughtful people who are ready to set themselves high goals and fight to achieve them. To show that any person is capable of reaching incredible and challenging heights, as long as they are ready to fully commit to them and not give up at the first failure or obstacle. It doesn’t matter what shape or type of target you choose. It can be in sports and business, as in art and science. Or in any other chosen field. Everything is possible – the main thing is not to be afraid, to want and do it.”

In the plot of the film, on June 1, 2021, video artist Edgars Trankalis left his parents’ home in Rucava by bicycle and went alone on a challenging journey with one sole goal – to reach Rome in 40 days. His route was deliberately designed in such a way that he could both test his strength and enjoy unforgettable moments and views at the same time. It led along various asphalt and sand roads, as well as various mountain paths and paths.

This journey was made much more difficult by the fact that the author of the film was determined to capture it all by himself. To keep the bike maneuverable and as light as possible, Edgars Trankalis armed himself with only a few, simple and small cameras and a drone. It required some effort and extra time to charge the camera batteries and save the footage.

“It is a story about daring, testing one’s strength and courage in accepting such a challenge. Being alone, dealing with various conflict situations, while maintaining psychological stability and faith in one’s own strength – was a big challenge. However, the film shows that anything is possible, even how much one person is capable of, how much he can do if he wants to and believes in his own abilities. This story, in my opinion, is an excellent example of how to achieve your goals and become a much stronger and more balanced person”, says Edgars Trankalis.

A number of well-known people did not hide their excitement after watching the film.

Erik Stendzeniek, advertising specialist: “While watching Edgar’s film, I must honestly admit: I sat tensely on the edge of my chair for two hours. Yes, I am a glorified critic who will crush any attempt at self-indulgence that has no cover, that is superficial. In this case, my vaunted fighter skills remained unused. And thanks to Edgar, that once again my attention span broke from the 5-second attention span of a goldfish to two hours.”

Sandy Semyonov, journalist and author of documentaries: “A film that must be seen to understand that the impossible is possible. I look at this not only as a traveler, but also as a filmmaker. Because it’s one thing to go to the middle of Italy, but it’s quite another to document and film this adventure yourself. It requires a lot of enterprise and a serious plan. The film has succeeded.”

Pauls Timrots, director: “Everybody has had a dream when they were young – to go far, far on a bicycle! Only a few fulfill it, but only one films it and inspires others – Edgars Trankalis! Edgars is a person – an orchestra, who managed to travel 100 kilometers a day, simultaneously filming incredibly beautiful shots and publishing content on social networks.”

Mārtiņš Aleksandrovičs, moto freestyler: “A very good motivating documentary film about how to achieve perhaps even unbelievable goals for yourself. People actually do not realize their true potential and only use a small part of it in their lifetime. (..) The main thing is not to give up! A movie I would recommend everyone to watch.”

It is interesting that Edgars Trankalis not only measured the road from Rucava to Rome alone, capturing it all himself in exciting video and photo shots, but also after the bicycle adventure set himself a new challenge – to create his first documentary film alone. Therefore, Edgars Trankalis is the sole author of this film, as well as the producer, scenographer, cameraman, photographer, video editor, animator, graphic and sound designer, as well as the behind-the-scenes voiceover. In total, the making of the film took more than two years.

“There are many talented and capable people in Latvia, but only a few have believed in it and discovered these potential traits and talents in themselves. It is impossible to accomplish great things in life without motivation and inspiration. That’s why inspiring movies like this are so important. I hope my film will be like that. I am a living example of the fact that with faith in one’s own strength one can accomplish things, even which at first seem unreal. Despite the fact that virtually no one believed in me before this challenge, I ended up cycling all the way to Rome and making this film, which was actually five times more difficult than riding a bike. It required a lot of time and patience, but in the end there is enormous satisfaction for what has been done”, says Edgars Trankalis.

The premiere of the film was attended by a wide audience, including Armands Simsons, Gacho aka Gatis Irbe, Toms Alsbergs (professional cyclist), Robins Dedzis (physiotherapist who spent half a year preparing Edgar for the trip by strengthening the deep muscles), Anita Siliņa Kažemākas (rehabilitation scientist, running coach), Erik Stendzeniek, Paul Timrots, Aivars Priedols (Chairman of Dienvidkurzeme District), etc.

As Edgars Trankalis admits, there were so many congratulations and compliments after the premiere that it will inspire him, perhaps even to publish a book about his trip in the future. Here are some of the highlights from viewers:

“(..) I am 37 years old and I have never in my life experienced such emotions while watching a movie as I did watching yours yesterday. (..) Ants and goosebumps repeated themselves several times (..)”.

“(..) Emotions overflow! A fantastically heartfelt film! Tears of joy were shed several times. It seemed that we were with you for all 3222 km. (..)”

“Epic, inspiring, crazy. 2 hours passed like 2 minutes”.
