Ruben Dias again recognized his prowess in success Manchester City in domestic competition. Dias was chosen so Premier League Player of the Year 2020/2021.
Dias is one of the eight candidates announced by the Premier League operator a few days ago. Dias has to compete with Kevin De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane, Bruno Fernandes, Jack Grealish, Tomas Soucek and Mason Mount.
After going through a voting process followed by Premier League fans, 20 team captains, and a panel of experts, Dias was finally named the best player of the season. Dias immediately set after signing from Benfica last summer for 65 million pounds.
He made 32 appearances with one goal in the Premier League and was responsible for 15 clean sheets while playing. Ruben Dias, along with John Stones, is the reason why City’s goal has only conceded 32 goals in 38 weeks.
Dias leads City’s total block, clearance and air clearance stats, and is second in terms of successful aerial duels and passes. Naturally, City won 21 consecutive wins in all competitions, including 15 consecutive Premier League matches.
This is Dias’ second individual title after being selected as the journalist’s version of the best player in the English League. At the FWA Player of the Year Award, Dias beat De Bruyne and Harry Kane.
Ruben Dias continued City’s dominance after De Bruyne won the same award last season. He became the second Portuguese player to win it after Cristiano Ronaldo in 2006/2007 and 2007/2008.
Dias followed three other defenders who won this award such as Nemanja Vidic, Vincent Kompany and Virgil van Dijk.
