RSU professor: The absence of newly discovered cases of Covid-19 in one day does not indicate anything yet

The absence of the newly detected cases of Covid-19 in one day does not yet indicate that a repeated outbreak of the disease could have been avoided, Professor Ģirts Briģis, Head of the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, Riga Stradins University, told LETA.

“With small numbers of newly diagnosed diseases, fluctuations from zero to ten are within a few cases and can only indicate a certain stability of the current situation. This does not necessarily indicate that a new Covid-19 outbreak has been avoided, ”said Briģis.

He emphasized that the situation with the disease should be assessed over a longer period of time and that some conclusions could be drawn only by evaluating the results of next week’s tests.

“I assume that the tests performed in the past days were purposeful and tested on people who had a high probability of contact with previously infected people. From this point of view, it can be assumed that most of the contact persons of last week’s outbreak of the disease have been discovered, ”explained Briģis.
