Röyksopp reveals comeback – VG

BACK: Svein Berge (left) and Torbjørn Brundtland, here during the Röyksopp concert on Øya in 2014.

In 2014, they declared themselves finished with the album format. Now the electronics duo announce that they have something new and big going on.

Published:

Seven years have passed since Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland released the voted record «The Inevitable End».

The award-winning, best-selling and internationally renowned duo then said that it should be their latest album – even though Röyksopp himself did not plan to quit.

An application to the Cultural Council’s Fund for Sound and Vision from Röyksopp’s own company Seabee now states that they “are in the process of starting what will be their most ambitious project to date”.

The application states that it is an album or a series of singles that in total make up at least 20 minutes of playing time, and will be released on CD and vinyl as well as via streaming and download.

STAR HELP: Röyksopp promises well-known singing voices on his new project. Here with Swedish Robyn, with whom they have collaborated a lot.

Röyksopp has a tradition of using prominent singing voices on his recordings, such as Erlend Øye and Anneli Drecker on the debut album 20 years ago, to Susanne Sundfør and Robyn on “The Inevitable End”.

“Several well-known vocalists will contribute to the recording,” the application states.

Expensive

The total budget for the recording project is stated to be 7.1 million.

That’s almost three times the budget for one of them last year’s most expensive Norwegian record recordings, Astrid S ‘debut album.

Speaking of triple: In a list of decisions at the Norwegian Cultural Council, «triple album» is mentioned in connection with Röyksopp’s upcoming activities.

It appears from the budget that Röyksopp expects a total of almost six million in sales revenues, sponsorship revenues and private grants in connection with the release.

They calculate there with 906,000 in fees to musicians, producers and “others” who contribute to the recording.

The duo is also planning a concert activity in connection with the release. In another application to the Norwegian Cultural Council, they ask for tour and business grants for 2022 and 2023.

BREAKTHROUGH: Röyksopp took the world by storm after the debut album «Melody AM». Here with MTV award for best video in Barcelona 2002.

They state planned activity in the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and Turkey in addition to the Nordic market.

VG has asked Berge and Brundtland for comment on the case.

The record company Warner is listed as a distributor for the release, they tell VG that they do not have information.

  1. Hello there, I’ve been trying to find the site for the Cultural Council’s Fund for Sound and Vision where you got such information that Röyksopp “are in the process of starting what will be their most ambitious project to date”, and that “it is an album or a series of singles that in total make up at least 20 minutes of playing time, and will be released on CD and vinyl as well as via streaming and download.”

Would you be able to send me a link to the site where you referenced this information from? I’ve been searching everywhere for the Cultural Council’s Fund for Sound and Vision, but I haven’t been able to find anything.
