For preventive reasons, the elite rowers of Prague’s Dukla will not start at Primátorky, so after 40 years, their winning streak in the famous eight-row race should end. The management of the Czech Rowing Association has agreed with the representatives of Dukla that they will not risk a possible coronavirus infection with regard to the October European Championships in Poznań. However, Dukla is still looking for a way to assemble at least one crew.

Jakub Podrazil, who was supposed to be a member of the elite Dukla crew, already indicated possible problems with the weekend start this afternoon. In recent days, five of his planned partners have come into contact with a person who has tested positive for covid-19 at the shipyard. In the evening, it was already clear that the representatives will be missing from the start in large crews. They can only start on a skiff, which, for example, is planned by Ondřej Synek.

“The presidency of the association has agreed that the representatives will start only on skiffs where there is no risk of infection. It can be seen there. At eight, especially university, there are representatives with people from universities. Already, one boy from the under-23 national team is positive at Dukla the other two are out. We agreed with the ace that they will not go at all for preventive reasons, “national team coach Jakub Makovička told ČTK. For example, Lenka Antošová and Kristýna Fleissnerová will not be able to sit in university octaves.

Dukla, who is supposed to strive for the 41st win in a row at Primátorky, but is looking for a way to introduce herself at the race. “But I give it only a few percent. Dukla is the showcase of Czech rowing and does not deserve that the most prestigious Czech rowing race does not run in full force,” said Václav Maleček, head coach of the Army Rowing Sports Club in Dukla Prague.
