Next year, Rotterdam may again organize the Eurovision Song Contest. That was announced during the special TV broadcast Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light which was broadcast live in 45 countries tonight to replace the final of the musical spectacle.
This year’s edition, scheduled to take place in Ahoy, was canceled in March due to the corona crisis. Subsequently, the NPO, NOS and AvroTros, together with Rotterdam and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), explored the possibilities of keeping the Eurovision song contest for Rotterdam in 2021.
For example, last month Rotterdam decided to set aside another 6.7 million euros for organizing the party next year. The city previously made millions for costs for the canceled song festival.
Date still unclear
Since it is unclear how the coronavirus will affect the situation in the coming year, various scenarios are being developed. More details will be announced in the coming weeks and months, as will the dates of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. People who had tickets for this year will hear next week whether they can keep them or exchange them for cash.
