Rögle’s Cam and Chris Abbott are linked with the job at the NHL club San José Sharks

After 19 years in the post, Doug Wilson has stepped down as general manager of the San José Sharks. The NHL club is thus looking for a new person to lead them into the future.

And podcasts 32 Thoughts Journalists Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman discuss the club’s way forward and say that they have conducted several interviews for the job as GM and that it has boiled down to a number of candidates.

The Abbott brothers to the NHL?

According to Firedman, the club does not want a GM of the old school but is looking for something younger. They will also focus on North America.

– I have heard that there is an international candidate and you and I Jeff dug into the market for a couple of days to see who it could be, Friedman says in the podcast.

Marek goes on to say that two of the candidates who would be suitable for the job are in the SHL, more specifically in Skåne.

– A couple of names that were shared with me were two brothers from Sarnia who work in Sweden. Cam and Chris Abbott, 38 years old, lead Rögle. Chris is the GM and Cam is the trainer. I may expand it a bit when it comes to international candidates, they are Canadians but they work in Europe, he says.

“They are top names”

Marek goes on to motivate why the Abbott brothers would fit into the Sharks.

– These are names that were said to fit the profile. They are a) International candidates and b) at an age where they can work in the club for several years.

Friedman, however, is on another track: Davos’ former sports director Raeto Raffainer, now in HC Bern.

– I think they (Cam and Chris) are top names. But I have no clarity. I have heard that there is a serious international candidate and that Raffainer fits in the profile.
