Roger Federer Documentary Interview: Tears and Reflections on Retirement – GQ Interview

A month after the announcement of the release of a documentary on Roger Federer’s retirement which should see the light of day next July on Amazon, the person concerned, in a recent and fascinating interview granted to GQspoke on this subject.

And obviously, tissues are to be expected.

“To be honest, I didn’t decide it. I do not know how to explain. It’s something I didn’t want to do. It’s like writing a book. I didn’t want to write a book. I just wasn’t ready to write my story. So there was never any question of it. Then, as the end approached and the Laver Cup was set up, the question arose: Do we want anything documented? Perhaps more for my own story, for my children, for my friends, my coaches and my team. What if we filmed a little over the shoulder? At least we would have something, because there is almost nothing behind the scenes in my life, because I never want anyone around me. So they came and I said, ‘You probably want to see before, during and after.’ Joe then said to me: ‘I have so many images, they are so incredible and it would be a waste not to share them. Can I offer you a one hour documentary?’ And I said, ‘Okay, sure, but that’s not the point. But yes, of course, show me.’ And it’s very moving, very hard to watch. I watch it with Mirka (his wife) and Tony (Godsick, his agent) and we’re like, ‘Oh, my God, wow.’ Then it’s like we’re making an hour and a half movie about the last 12 days of my life. I attended a screening the other day, it was very hard. I cried six times. »
