Robin Williams: A True Support on Set
Robin Williams, known for his unforgettable performances, certainly had something of Mrs. Doubtfire within him even when the cameras weren’t rolling. One incident in particular showcased his commitment to those he worked alongside, even off-screen.
Mrs. Doubtfire Co-Star’s Experience
Robin Williams was a memorable figure in the movie Mrs. Doubtfire, alongside Lisa Jakub who played one of the Hillard children in the 1993 film. As a dedicated actress, Jakub had to navigate the challenges of simultaneously attending high school in Canada and participating in the production of the movie.
A Schooling Predicament
While Jakub was working on the role of Lydia Hillard, her high school in Canada faced difficulties in handling her academic commitments. They sent a disheartening note, stating that her situation was no longer feasible. This news shattered Jakub, particularly since it was the only aspect of her life that resembled a typical student’s.
Robin Williams Steps Up
Aware of Jakub’s dismay, Williams took it upon himself to intervene. Sensing her distress, he inquired about the issue and promptly wrote a letter to Jakub’s principal, advocating for her continued education and career pursuit simultaneously. Williams sought support from the school to reconsider their decision, empathizing with Jakub’s unique circumstance.
An Inexplicable Response
Unfortunately, Williams’ efforts did not sway the school’s decision. Jakub revealed that the principal, rather than amending their stance, framed and displayed the letter without reinstating her. This unexpected outcome left Jakub astonished by the principal’s actions.
