Robert De Niro’s Production Company Guilty of Gender Discrimination: Former Assistant Awarded $1.2 Million

Nov 9, 2023 at 11:38 PM Update: an hour ago

Robert De Niro’s production company must pay the actor’s former assistant $1.2 million (1.1 million euros). Graham Chase Robinson took the eighty-year-old actor to court for gender discrimination, intimidation, unwanted physical contact and verbal abuse.

De Niro was acquitted on personal grounds. The jury ruled that his company was guilty of discrimination on the grounds of gender. The amount that Canal Productions had to pay to Robinson was considerably lower than her demand. The former assistant wanted to receive 11.3 million euros.

De Niro was in court at the end of October. There he dismissed the woman’s claims as “nonsense”. “I only asked her to do things that were reasonably possible, within the scope of her job,” he said of the allegations.

Robinson claimed that De Niro treated her like “his office lady”. She would have to perform “humiliating household tasks” for the actor and therefore demanded damages.

De Niro’s company again accused Robinson of, among other things, stealing company property. The jury did not agree with that. Robinson’s attorney, David Sanford, is pleased with the ruling. “We are very pleased that the jury saw what we see and ruled in favor of Chase Robinson against Robert De Niro’s company.”

De Niro and his lawyer have not yet responded to the ruling.
