Rob Jetten takes a step back: ‘I just don’t have much with elbows to be the front man’ | This weekend’s best stories

the conversationRob Jetten (33) went from ‘Robot Jetten’ to sovereign D66 leader over the past two years, without glasses but with profile. As number 2 on the D66 electoral list, he steps aside for Sigrid Kaag.

What does it say about the character of the political leader of D66 that he avoided the battle for the top spot?
“To be honest, I think it’s a form of leadership that you step aside if you think someone else is better. I notice that everyone in The Hague finds that special. That actually mainly says how important egos are here. ”

“I can put my role and status into perspective. And I see myself as a team player. I just don’t have much with elbows to play the front part. Apart from that, I seriously asked myself the question: do I want this already? Am I ready for the party leader at all? It all happened so quickly. Four years ago I was still on the Nijmegen city council. ”
