The crowd will undoubtedly be there. This Friday, September 22, thousands of people are expected to gather to try to catch a glimpse of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
To ensure the safety of the royal couple and the public, the prefecture announced the establishment of several security perimeters in the municipalities of Bordeaux, Floirac and Martillac.
In Bordeaux, from 11 a.m., between Place Pey Berland, the quays of the Garonne and the Saint-Nicolas district, it will be possible to travel on foot or by bike, but “channeled way”. The circulation of vehicles will be regulated, or even prohibited in certain slots.
“Security forces will be empowered to carry out random checks on pedestrians (pat-downs personal safety, visual inspections and baggage searches) and vehicle searches,(stopped, driving or parking on public roads or in places accessible to the public)”, specifies the Gironde prefecture in its press release.

In Bordeaux, rue Elisée Reclus, rue Montbazon and place Pey Berland will be inaccessible between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The Albret course will be closed from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Rue Saint Nicolas will also be open between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.
On the quays, between the conservatory and rue Ferrère, traffic will be prohibited from 1 p.m. and will be gradually restored from 4 p.m. “Residents are also invited to take note of the parking bans applicable from Thursday, September 21 at 6 p.m. to Friday, September 22 at 5 p.m.,” specifies the prefecture.
These are Cours d’Albret, rue Montbazon, place Pey-Berland, place Rohan, rue Elisée Reclus, place de la Bourse, rue Philippart and rue Saint-Rémi up to their intersection with rue des Capérans, place Jean Jaurès, quai du Maréchal Lyautey, quai de la customs and quai Richelieu and rue Saint-Nicolas in Bordeaux.
This will also be the case for the observatory sector in Floirac, and in the commune of Martillac. “In Martillac, traffic will be prohibited on Chemin Carosse (between Route de la Salle and Route
Jean de Ramon) between 2:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Parking will also be prohibited on this axis.explains the prefecture.
Be careful however, in these areas, barred spaces will be subject to regulated access where “systematic monitoring” will be operated on. The movement of pedestrians, bicycles or vehicles will be completely prohibited, except for local residents.
Restrictions which also affect Bordeaux bars and cafes, as well as the cathedral. “The installation of café terraces will also be prohibited. Saint-André Cathedral will be inaccessible during the morning and early afternoon of September 22, 2023,” specifies the prefecture.
Finally, on the Garonne, a navigation exclusion zone has also been set up around the frigate.
If cars don’t run, neither do buses and trams. Around the areas, public transport will therefore be diverted.
Tramway line B will be cut between Quinconces and Achard from 1:40 p.m. to 3 p.m. Relay buses will be put in place.
Lines C and D will be interrupted between 1:40 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. between Saint-Jean station and Place des Quinconces. Lianas 1, 5, 15 and 23 will be reinforced. No stop at “Bourse” will be possible between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
On the bus side, traffic interruptions will occur between 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. around Place des Quinconces. “The bus terminus for lines 2 and 3 in Quinconces will be postponed to rue Georges Bonnac from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Lianes 1, 5, 15, 16, 23 will be diverted from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Mériadeck sector. THE terminus of line 80 is postponed cours du Maréchal Jun, in front of the Ibis hotel”, details the prefecture.
In total, King Charles III and Queen Camilla will spend nearly five hours in the Gironde capital, and to follow the royal couple’s movements, you will have to put on sneakers.
After their arrival at Mérignac airport, the king and queen will go to Bordeaux town hall for an exchange with Pierre Hurmic. Around 11:30 a.m., Place Pey-Berland will once again be open to the curious who will be able to chat for a few minutes with the royal couple.
Charles III and Camilla will then go to the quays of Bordeaux, where the Royal Navy’s Iron Duke is currently moored.
