Rixensart: a 32-unit project opposite the monastery

This project follows two previous requests, introduced in 2009 and 2015.

Since Wednesday, a public inquiry has opened in Rixensart for a permit request submitted by SA Danneels. It concerns a land with an area of 3.6 ha located opposite the Notre-Dame de la Belle Alliance monastery.

The imagined project involves the construction of 32 housing units – 27 single-family homes and a building of 5 apartments – a community space, various amenities (plots, roads, trails) as well as three water retention basins. The whole spread over two areas (North and South), currently delimited by a series of trees – some of which are remarkable. 83 parking spaces will be created.

According to the impact study, this project should lead to the arrival of 132 new inhabitants for the town, without major impact on traffic and by promoting soft mobility. Still according to the impact study, if the project complies with the sector plan and overall the Municipal Planning Guide, it nonetheless violates several recommendations of the municipal development scheme. Because the North zone is classified as “plot with ecological interest to preserve”.

Remember that the project is not a first for the site. It follows two other requests (2009 and 2015) made by SA Danneels. During the most recent, the municipality and the applicant had agreed on a maximum of 24 dwellings, before the client gave up his request. The current project therefore reports 8 additional dwellings.

The public inquiry has been open since June 25 and will end on July 15.
