Ripple CEO Is Open To Settlement With SEC, But On One Condition

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse wants to find a “constructive way forward” with the SEC, he said in an interview.

During his Sept. 24 interview with Fox Business, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said Ripple is willing to settle with the SEC, but only if there is absolute certainty:

To the extent that we can find a constructive way forward with the SEC, we naturally want to find it. However, for now there is no scenario in which we are going to settle. Unless there is absolute certainty about what Ripple is. We need clarity.

Ripple is determined to educate the judge on the usefulness of Ripple.

We have a clear vision of how Ripple can be an extremely powerful tool. There are many other people in the crypto community and the Ripple community who are doing great things with Ripple.

Garlinghouse stressed that the Ripple Ledger is a decentralized open-source technology that existed before the company was founded. He compared the native cryptocurrency to oil and gold.

There is a lack of clear regulation

The SEC’s ambiguous statements about Ethereum show the lack of regulatory clarity, Garlinghouse said. He claims that the agency has backtracked on the cryptocurrency’s securities status.

I think there has been and still is a lack of clarity.

Speaking of potential conflicts of interest, Garlinghouse said the timing of the lawsuit was suspicious:

I often get this question… The timing sucks. It doesn’t look good.

While deploring the lack of clarity, the Ripple boss disagrees with the idea that crypto is like the “Wild West”. He claims the industry is already regulated:

Crypto is regulated. The SEC may want more power over this.
