The Riga International Film Festival (RIGA IFF), which will take place this year from October 14 to 24, will open its eighth season of documentaries made by Alessandro Rosellini, the grandson of the legendary Italian film director Roberto Rosellini. “I was born Rosellini” session. Latvian film professionals are also involved in the creation of the film – it is co-produced by the studio “VFS Films”, the screenwriter is the director Dāvis Sīmanis, while its main operator is the internationally awarded Valdis Celmiņš. The film will be available on the opening night of RIGA IFF both in person at the cinema “Splendid Palace” and online throughout Latvia.

Roberto Rosellini and daughter of Ingrid Bergmane, actress and director Izabella Rosellini, film producer Renco Rosellini and other members of the dynasty also take part in the film, which had its international premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

“The concept inseparably connected with Roberto Rosellini – neorealism – will gain new weight by documenting the artificial and played façade of the family to reveal the true lives and thoughts of the members of the Rosellini family,” Dāvis Sīmanis revealed.

The “Born in Rosellini” screening will also echo this year’s retrospective program “The Rosselinis and The Century”, which looks at the activities of the influential Rosellini-Bergman film clan over several decades.

The festival program includes the ironically dark comedy “Equestrian Equestrian” with Danish actor Mads Mikelsen in the lead role, a documentary observation about the pioneers of Scandinavian design in the film “Alto” ​​and as yet unpublished films that will be recognizable to the audience due to their A-class film festivals.

Currently, the films announced are only a small part of the festival program, which will be regularly supplemented with other films until October.
