Riga Circus Launches Interactive Digital Performance in Urban Environment The news

Riga, Sept. 17, LETA. Riga Circus has launched an interactive orienteering adventure in the historical center of Riga – the project “Circus in the City”, which is available free of charge to Rigans and guests of the city at any time of the day, Zane Volkinstein, a representative of Riga Circus, informed LETA.

She pointed out that “Circus in the City” is an interactive show with elements of the game. To experience this show, you need a smartphone with which to scan square codes with the help of cameras. The starting point is located at the Riga Circus building, 4 Merkela Street, Riga. There, spectators will be greeted by an informative poster with a square code, which, when scanned, will provide an opportunity to learn about the progress of the game and the next checkpoints, some of which are immediately visible, but some will be revealed during the show.

The story of the show-game is tied to the reconstruction of the historical building of the Riga Circus – while renovation works are taking place on Merkela Street, the circus artists have scattered in the city. The task of the spectator of the show is to find them all and take them home until the renovation works are completed.

Checkpoints are square code plates located in the historical center of Riga, which gives the opportunity to watch videos with performances by artists. During the game you will also have the opportunity to learn the tricks of different circus disciplines. The checkpoints have not been chosen at random – places related to the history of the Riga circus have been selected – at each point there will be an opportunity to find out on their screen about the events that link the circus to the specific place.

Circus artists, current and former teachers of Riga Circus School Dmitrijs Pudenko, Aleksejs Smolovs, Maija Sukute, Valērijs Komisarenko and Gabriels Gots are participating in the performance. The director of the show is the British artist Jason Dupri.

Volkinstein emphasized that the order of visiting the points is a free choice of each participant of the game, however, the most logical route will be formed in the direction of Alfrēda Kalniņa Street and further – counterclockwise. Once all the checkpoints have been found, the viewer will have access to several letters, which, when put together in the name and entering the password in the field, will give the spectators access to the final performance.

For the time being, “Circus in the City” is available in Latvian, but from October it will be possible to choose Russian or English versions.
