RI to Import Gammaraas-Actemra, an Expensive COVID-19 ‘medicine’

Face spike in COVID-19 casesMinister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that Indonesia would import medicines that cannot be produced domestically, namely remdesivir, gamara bait, and actemra. “We have 3 drugs that cannot be produced domestically,” said the Minister of Health in a virtual press conference, Monday (26/7/2021).

“Such as remdesivir, actemra, and gammaraas. These are drugs that worldwide are also in short supply because everyone needs these drugs,” he continued.

He mentioned, remdesivir 150 thousand are planned to arrive in July 2021. Continuing in August, Indonesia arrived 1.2 million.

As for actemra, the Minister of Health said that 1,000 vials would arrive in August 2021.

“Actemra is very famous because the price is 50 million to hundreds of millions, even though the actual price is below 10 million. This July, 1,000 vials will come, but in August we will import 138,000 from countries that you may not have imagined,” he continued.

He reminded that because these medicines are expensive and must be used in hospitals, people who can afford them are asked not to stock them at home. This drug should be available to people who really need it.

“For the 3 drugs, such as gammaraas, actemra and remdesivir, they must be injected and can only be administered at the hospital. So please let these drugs be consumed according to the procedure because I saw and I’m afraid, many of us want to buy them and put them at home because scared,” he concluded.
