Rhythmic Music Therapy Can Aid Recovery of Children with Severe Brain Injury, Finds Study

Severe traumatic brain injury in children can lead to problems with the function of the musculoskeletal system, which can be accelerated by prolonged physical therapy, and, according to scientists from Anglia Ruskin University (UK), rhythmic music.

Rhythmic auditory stimulation aims to improve walking speed and quality of movement by using rhythms that give patients signals about how fast to move. By establishing neurological connections between auditory cues and physical movements, musical stimulation promotes the development of a smoother and more coordinated gait.

All the little members this study demonstrated improvements in walking and speed of injury recovery by adding music therapy to their rehabilitation program. Experts believe that music therapy, combined with other interventions that help children recover from a severe head injury, can significantly improve their well-being and health in the future.

Previously, researchers from Ryerson University (Canada) found that listening to music reduces anxiety more effectively than some sedatives.
